10 Tips for Immunizing Your Personal Computer
by David Needham
Working for the Technology Helpdesk on campus, I often feel compelled to create projects in multimedia that "kill two birds with one stone." In this case, I felt like I could use my area of expertice to help save time at work by offering these tips to help people fix their computers before they need it.
I have learned that the best way for a technical person to explain a problem to a non-technical person is to compare it to a non-technical issue that they understand. Applying that theory to this project, I have compared preventative virus and spyware countermeasures to human immunization from viruses using shots.
This project shows an overall balance by using symmetry in the placement of the shots for the intro page. The shots best represent the rythm and unity in this piece, as they are all identical. Additionally, scrolling over the shot buttons creates a increases this feeling with the identical animation sequences. The piece as a whole attempts to stay in correct to the 'real life' prospective. The things on the wall in the back are reletively small compared to the shots and human because they are farther back in the room. In this piece, the user controls the emphasis. The user moves their emphesis around the page, clicks a button, reads the tip, then clicks the button to return back to the main page.
